New Tour of Portugal: The Food & Culture of Porto

We’re adding a new tour for 2024 when we will travel to Porto to explore the cuisine and culture of Northern Portugal.

The focus of the trip is food, which in Portugal ranges from hearty soups to fish, shellfish and meats. The Portuguese were explorers who were first to sail the oceans of the world. They brought home spices and influences that continue to be featured in Portuguese cuisine to this day.

But there is more to this trip than eating, as a country’s cuisine does not exist in isolation. Porto packs cuisine, culture, and history into one engaging experience and we will explore it all.  We will:

• Be guided through Porto’s varied neighborhoods

• Take a boat trip on the Douro River to explore Port production and visit vineyards

• Take a Portuguese cooking class

• Dine at top Porto restaurants

• Visit public markets

• Visit the Port Museum and Port tasting

• Make an excursion by train to Viana do Castello near the Spanish border

• Ride on an historic tram to see the beaches of the Atlantic

And while in Porto, we will stay in a wonderful, small hotel in a former Porto residence that is run by some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

This Porto Tour runs from April 28 to May 6, 2024 and we hope you’ll join us.
