Who We Are
Travel Fever Tours is owned by Cicely Carroll and Bob Lawson.
Cicely and Bob have been married and traveling the world together for many years. Together or separately, we have lived and worked in Europe for 10 years, including Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Sweden. We have also traveled for leisure or business to an additional 40 countries in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Wherever we’ve lived, we’ve always had a steady stream of visitors. Slowly we realized that we didn’t just live in attractive places. We had grown adept at giving our visitors an insider’s view of the places they were visiting. They would have great trips because we were great guides.
So in 2010 Cicely stepped forward and launched Travel Fever Tours, taking a group of artists to Tuscany, Italy, to paint. Under Cicely’s watchful eye, the company has grown and evolved since, offering trips to Italy, France, Spain, Mexico and domestically in the US. Soon we’ll add Austria and Portugal.
And while we still focus on travel workshops for artists, we also offer walking, hiking and other outdoor trips, particularly on the Camino de Santiago in Spain. In addition, we offer general culture and heritage tours where people can explore their roots in the “old country.”
And while we have grown some since our humble beginnings in 2010, we are still small, offering no more than six to eight trips a year. That’s the way we like it and you’ll always find either Cicely or Bob on each trip. Bob’s brother, Don, or Cicely and Bob’s daughter, Maddy, may also join in.
This makes us truly a family operation.
Cicely Carroll
Cicely, the founder of Travel Fever Tours, is a life-long social worker and retired clinical therapist. She also holds a degree in fine arts and has enjoyed drawing and painting wherever she travels. In addition to overseeing the operation of the company as a whole, Cicely cultivates relationships with art schools and art instructors who lead workshops on our tours for artists.
Having mistakenly signed up for “bus” tours in the past and having hated them, Cicely is committed to the small-group experience. At the close of each trip, she wants each person to not only feel great about the places they’ve been and the things they have done, but also feel connected to their fellow travelers in their group.
Cicely is an avid birder, walker, and reader.
Bob Lawson
Bob worked for years in the online travel field, managing internet companies that deliver reservations to hotels and restaurants. He’s been fortunate to be able to work at this in Switzerland, Italy and Spain for extended periods. In addition to his work with Travel Fever Tours, he now consults with nonprofit organizations in technology and communications.
Bob is the details man. He books the hotels, restaurants and plans all logistics. His background in the travel field makes him a natural at this.
In addition to being an amateur birder, Bob hikes, gardens and enjoys exploring every corner of the world.
Maddy Lawson
Maddy is the newest member of the team, joining in 2022 as a Junior Leader & Marketing Specialist. Following in her parent’s footsteps, Maddy also has a degree in fine arts and has traveled extensively and lived abroad in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Thailand, and Laos. She is excited to learn the ropes and help continue to grow the family business.
When she’s not traveling with Travel Fever Tours, Maddy lives in Denver, Colorado and works in higher education.
