The Magic of Painting in Tuscany, Italy
There are not many places that can match Tuscany. The views, the colors, the textures. (Not to mention the food.)
We are pleased to be returning to Pienza in September 2025 with Leslie Jorgensen and a painting workshop. We love Pienza for many reasons:
The architecture is captivating, with the town having been rebuilt with Vatican money, making it into what was designed to be an “ideal” town
Pienza isn’t a city. It’s a town and a perfect size to explore on foot
The town is flat, unlike most Tuscan hill towns. This makes is much easier to get around without major climbs
Even though the town is flat, there is still a stunning view off to the south to the Amiata volcano which dominates much of Tuscany.
We’ve been in Pienza with artist groups twice before and the town has been a big hit. And of course we’ll do much more than paint. There is the food, naturally. There will be an Italian market to visit, and perhaps a trip to a vineyard, if there is interest.
Pienza is in the Val d’Orcia which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized for its unique beauty. The town was built as an "ideal town" in the 15th century under the patronage of Pope Pius II. To this day, it is difficult to tell whether the town itself is more pleasing, or its lovely views across the Tuscan countryside.
The workshop will run September 11 to 18, 2025 and participants can work in any medium. Demos will be done mostly in acrylic.
