Short Walks on the Spanish Camino for Non-Walkers

Historic Sites, Great Food, and Wonderful Hotels

Come experience the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain

September 26 to October 4, 2025

This tour is designed for those drawn to the Camino de Santiago but who don’t feel they’re up to a full walk on the Camino. Instead, we offer you a trip across Northern Spain along the Camino path, but one where you can walk just a few miles a day (or indeed, not walk at all).

History is a major theme of this tour and we’ll stay in rooms in renovated historic hotels along the way, including monasteries, pilgrim hospitals, and manor houses. And of course we’ll be visiting many places of historical significance.

This trip is also structured to be at an even higher luxury level than other Travel Fever Tours trips as we stay mostly in 4-star hotels and eat very well.

We will begin our journey in Pamplona, not far from the Pyrenees and the French border. We’ll work our way across northern Spain until we come to Santiago de Compostela, the end point of all the Camino routes that snake across Europe.

Each day you’ll have the option to walk a short stretch along the Camino, a stretch that we’ll specifically select for the group. We’ll spend the rest of the day visiting historic sites along the route, including cathedrals, castles, and even Roman ruins.  You’ll have time to explore on your own in the afternoon before we settle down to an excellent dinner.

More about this Tour

Pilgrims from all over Europe have been walking the Camino for well over a thousand years and today it attracts visitors from all over the world.

We will stay in small towns and small cities along the Camino route, all linked by the common heritage of hosting pilgrims as they travel along the Camino. We'll visit the cities of Burgos and Leon, known for their cathedrals and popular downtown areas.

In the mornings, while you’re fresh, you’ll have a chance to walk a section of the Camino yourself. We’ll select the flat, easy-walking sections for you; ones that we know to be particularly picturesque. We will visit ancient churches, castles, and monasteries. We'll add in wine tasting in the La Rioja region, village plazas, and parks. Local guides will share the history with you, while also sharing information about their own lives in Spain.

Our hotels will place you in history itself, as we stay in renovated Paradors and other historic structures.  And we’ll eat quite well. Breakfasts will be in our hotels. Some dinners will also be at our hotel when the restaurant has been well reviewed. Otherwise, we’ll eat at other great restaurants a short walk from the hotel. Lunches will include picnics and village cafes.

Our journey will end in Santiago de Compostela. We’ll stay two nights there so you have plenty of time for a walking tour with a guide, visit the cathedral, attend a pilgrim’s mass, visit a public market, and generally soak in this historic city.

This is a great way to be part of the Camino without needing to walk 500 miles. We do hope you’ll join us.

Why Travel the Camino

Pilgrims have walked Camino routes starting in all corners of Europe for over 1,000 years. The endpoint is Santiago de Compostela, which is also the endpoint of this Camino tour. We’ll spend two nights in Santiago at the end to enjoy the city and visit the cathedral.

The Camino was originally a religious pilgrimage. Walkers are still referred to as pilgrims, but at this time, few are walking for purely religious reasons. Some walk to consider a loss or weigh a life-changing decision.

We will travel nearly the entire length of the main Spanish Camino, and the distance we travel by van each day will be relatively modest. This will be a relaxed trip. We won’t be constantly getting in and out of the vans and we’ll be sure you have time on your own to explore, shop, or take a siesta.

Where we will stay

Our hotels have been chosen because of their historic nature and their comfort. This is a trip where we’ll both eat and sleep very well. The hotels are generally 4-stay establishments and include:

What we will eat

Our dinners will be at wonderful restaurants along our route. Some will be at our Paradors and other hotels. Other meals will be at respected local restaurants.  Some restaurants include:

Breakfasts will be at our hotels and lunches will be en route, either at a café or as a picnic in a park. These well-stocked picnics have become a favorite among our Camino walkers. There’s nothing like a picnic with a view.

Transportation

Other than our modest walks, we’ll move from place to place in two eight-person vans with Travel Fever Tours drivers. This gives us the flexibility to go where and when we want, to be flexible, and to tailor the length of walks for those who want to walk less or more in a day.

You will fly into Pamplona airport (or arrive by train if you should wish to visit other parts of Spain prior to the trip). Departure will be from Santiago de Campostela, where we’ll finish our tour. From there you can catch a flight home or take a train or bus to see more of Spain or Portugal.

We will meet you at the airport and drop you back off, to make your travels as stress-free as possible.

Is this Trip for Me?

This tour is designed for those who wish to experience the Spanish Camino but don’t feel they have the stamina to walk all day. We will stay at hotels, right along the Camino, we will see many of the same sights that you’d see if you were walking all day, but you don’t have to walk all day.

For those who do wish to walk some, we’ll take the group to a 2-3 mile section of the path which we’ve selected because of ease and beauty. This will truly give you a full flavor of the Camino, but this walk is optional. You don’t need to walk unless you wish to.  And for those who want to walk a bit more, we’ll be able to make arrangements for you towards the end of most days.

We will have some walking tours of the larger cities we visit and we’ll be walking around cathedrals and other such places. We’ll have some stairs at hotels.  Sometimes the cobblestone sidewalks can be a bit uneven. So you’ll need to be on your feet. But again, this will be a very different tour than when the group walks all day long.
